The energetic spirit of cross-cultural connection returned to Yale this past spring with the “Heritage Meets Heritage” event, fostering deeper appreciation and understanding amongst heritage language learners. This event allows students to connect with peers navigating similar cultural landscapes, sharing reflections and building community.

The Spring 2025 event was organized by the Arabic program (with significant contributions from Sarab Al Ani, the Arabic Program Language Director). Participants from various heritage language programs engaged in guided small-group conversations, followed by a dynamic whole-group discussion. An interactive cultural trivia game added a fun element, and attendees enjoyed snacks representing diverse heritages.

“Heritage Meets Heritage” continues to be a vital part of Yale’s language learning community, creating a supportive space and celebrating the rich diversity of linguistic and cultural identities. The Arabic program’s organization ensured another successful and enriching iteration of this valuable initiative.
